Dr. Baynham is a professor of biological sciences and serves on the Faculty Evaluation Committee, on the Faculty Senate, and on the Global Initiatives Committee. Her teaching and research foci include epidemiology and microbiology.
Dr. Baynham is a microbiologist who engages students in research projects both on campus and with collaborators, and who also studies student learning. She advises Biology majors, Medical Laboratory Science majors, and those seeking our 3+2 degree program with University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in which students earn a biology BA and a Clinical Laboratory Science MS. Dr. Baynham's courses frequently include a global focus and she has taken students abroad to London with History and Philosophy of Science (in 2013 and 2015), to Australia with a Capstone course (2016) and to Chile with an Epidemiology course (2017). Dr. Baynham encourages all students to engage in research and creative projects as well as to study abroad. She promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion and was a longtime member of the American Society for Microbiology Committee on Minority Education.
