The School of Health Sciences at St. Edward's University shapes future healthcare workers from all walks of life into highly skilled, compassionate professionals who are prepared for careers at the forefront of healthcare equity and access for everyone. 

Our academic programs respond to workforce needs across Central Texas to ensure our students are poised for the healthcare field and ready to contribute to positive societal change.

Our Departments

The School of Health Sciences is comprised of two academic departments, offering pathways for a variety of students to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and to the post-baccalaureate degree in Occupational Therapy.

Department of Nursing

Students are trained to deliver compassionate care and respond to the needs of the workforce. Learn more about this department, the degrees it offers and the faculty.

Department of Occupational Therapy

Students focus on helping individuals of all ages achieve and maintain meaningful participation in everyday activities through hands-on exercises and didactic training.

Our Facilities

Classes and labs take place in our new lab facilities where students engage in hands-on education that emphasizes simulated learning, clinical practices and compassionate care.

The newly designed Simulation Learning and Resource Center enhances hands-on learning and simulation experiences critical for the healthcare field. These modern labs provide an immersive environment where students can develop and refine their clinical skills before entering real-world practice.

Interim Dean's Message

Dear Future Health Sciences Students:

I want to offer you a Blue and Gold hilltop welcome from the School of Health Sciences! You will find no better place to live, learn, and engage than St. Edward’s University. We have much to offer and a uniqueness you will find nowhere else.

Dramatic changes in the healthcare environment are impacting professional healthcare practices in a variety of settings and providing new opportunities for expanding the role and function of healthcare professionals. 

Beginning in Fall 2023, our Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs teach students foundational knowledge and clinical skills with a focus on leadership, policy, ethics, and diversity to create a more just and inclusive healthcare environment. Through Fall 2028, The School of Health Sciences will roll out additional academic programs to support professional advancement in the field, including post-baccalaureate programs for nurses, occupational therapists, physician assistants, and physical therapists. 

We aim to educate healthcare professionals with a passion for addressing inequities and disparities across communities and to be a positive impact on the lives of those they care for.

The School of Health Sciences Is Growing

The landscape of health sciences education and professional need within Central Texas communities are evolving rapidly, reflecting advancements in technology and a growing emphasis on approaches that overcomes healthcare disparities. Over the next several years, exciting developments at the School of Health Sciences are anticipated, including four new post-baccalaureate programs.
