AUSTIN
- Patty Huffines, vice president of University Relations at St.
Edward's University, is one of 16 women appointed to Texas
Governor Rick Perry's Commission for Women. The commission
identifies, researches and advocates issues affecting women; and
sponsors the Texas Women's Hall of Fame.
Huffines is a long-time Austinite and a familiar face in the city's
business and volunteer communities. Since her arrival at St. Edward's
in 1995, she has been instrumental in creating and maintaining valuable
partnerships with the Central Texas business community, including
the Business Development Council, a base of corporate supporters
that foster ties between the university and Austin's business
community. Huffines earned her bachelor's degree from the University
of Texas at Austin.
Huffines served as chair of the 2000 Ronald McDonald House Bandana
Ball, chair of the 2000 Symphony Ball and president of Les Amis
de Hospice Austin. She has remained active with the Women's
Symphony League, Ronald McDonald House and Leadership Austin.
Huffines said, "It is an honor to be selected to this prestigious
commission. I look forward to working with these outstanding ladies
as we ensure the well-being and recognition of Texas women."
St. Edward's University is an independent, Catholic liberal
arts university of 4,100 students in Austin. It was founded by the
Congregation of Holy Cross.
