AUSTIN
- St. Edward's University student Jesus Santos of Laredo was voted
"most outstanding student" by the University of New Mexico's German
Summer School faculty in Taos, N.M. Santos also obtained a Language
Proficiency Certification administered by the Goethe-Institute,
which satisfies admission requirements for German universities and
helps individuals in a competitive job market. Santos and another
St. Edward's student made the highest score on the Language Proficiency
Certification; the highest level ever achieved since St. Edward's
participation with the program.
Since
1986 St. Edward's University has participated in Die Deutsche Sommerschule,
which is a unique total immersion program in German studies for
students and teachers and one of the most prestigious programs of
its kind in the United States. Students are able to focus on literature,
history, politics, and the performing arts while expanding their
knowledge of the German language and culture.
Santos,
who was awarded a round trip ticket to Germany from Lufthansa Airlines,
was singled out among other students who attended the program from
University of California at Berkeley, Michigan State University,
Rice University and Harvard University.
Founded
by the Congregation of Holy Cross, St Edward's University is an
independent Catholic liberal arts university of 4,100 students located
in Austin, Texas.
