Our department reflects the beliefs of St. Edward's University by offering a flexible degree plan. Rigorous field-specific coursework coupled with the freedom to explore general elective courses ensures students graduate with a comprehensive education. As a result, more than 75% of computer science students at St. Edward’s find work within six months of graduation. Students within these majors have made such substantial achievements as algorithmic trading on Wall Street to DNA mapping with the Human Genome Project.
Close interaction with faculty at St. Edward’s — and time spent in classes, labs, advising sessions and program events — sets the groundwork for undergraduate students to continue on to graduate studies or pursue careers in the software industry.
At the Faculty Recognition Gathering on April 20, 2016, Dr. Laura Baker received the Distinguished Career Award from St. Edward's University, recognizing her outstanding contributions to teaching, scholarship, and service. Dr. Baker has taught over 600 sections of courses and 4700 students in her time at St. Edward's, all while frequently serving as Department Chair or Department Head. Congratulations to Dr. Baker.
The Computer Science department provides practical experience in an educational and supportive setting. The Advanced Computing Lab (ACL) offers state-of-the-art computing services that allow students in Computer Science and related fields to engage in hands-on learning.

The ACL is located in John Brooks Williams South room 166. The lab is open 24 hours a day, 7 days per week for Computer Science students. Students and faculty with an authorized access St. Edward's ID card may enter the ACL at any time.
Our faculty contribute expertise in software design, the building of bioinformatics software platforms, engineering management, and patented manufacturing systems. Their research foci include digital forensics, information security and privacy including privacy preserving forensic investigations, cyber security, anonymity networks, and network security among other research. As a student in the Computer Science program you are afforded access to the funding programs offered exclusively to STEM students at St. Edward’s University by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Science (i4). i4 is currently offering tuition awards of up to $2,000 for specialized training and micro-credentialing consistent with the i4 mission. Additionally, i4 offers paid in-workplace internships that enable students to gain valuable practical experience as they move forward academically and professionally.
