Campus Safety strives to provide a safe and secure environment where all members of the St. Edward’s community can study, work and play.
All students, faculty, staff and other individuals associated with the university are encouraged to play a role in keeping the university safe. Specifically, Campus Safety works with all segments of the campus community with a focus on:
- Emergency Planning: Includes plans for the university as a whole in addition to working with individual departments across the campus to ensure they have emergency response plans in place.
- Training: Provides information Hilltoppers need to know regarding what to do in a specific situation. Examples of training include armed intruder response, situational awareness, personal preparedness, first aid and the Incident Command System (ICS). To learn more about any of these training opportunities, or to schedule training, please email us.
- Exercises: Campus Safety assists departments with the conduct of their own drills and exercises, from weather-related table-top exercises to residence hall fire drills. Also, where appropriate, Campus Safety works to integrate the University or its personnel into regional exercise efforts.

Plan and Prepare
Emergency Notification and SEU Alert
The SEU Alert system is the comprehensive communications solution that allows the university to quickly disseminate an urgent message through multiple communication mediums. If there is a condition which significantly threatens the health and safety of persons on campus or impacts normal campus operations, university officials will warn the campus community via text, email, Facebook, X and Instagram.
Make sure your contact information is current through "Sign Up for SEU Alerts" on myHilltop.
Emergency Operations Plan
The SEU Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) applies modern planning principles in addition to best practices and lessons learned to ensure St. Edward’s University is prepared to respond to, and recover from, any hazard threatening the lives and property of students, residents, staff, and visitors to SEU campuses and facilities. All faculty, staff and students are strongly encouraged to have a working knowledge of how the university plans to respond during times of crisis.
Emergency Preparedness
Taking preparedness actions helps people deal with disasters much more effectively when they do occur. Get ready with these resources:
Campus Community Emergency Response Team (C-CERT)
The Office of Campus Resilience serves as the liaison to the Campus Community Emergency Response Team (C-CERT). C-CERT is a volunteer organization whose members consist of St. Edward’s staff, students and faculty members who play an important role in helping to safeguard, prepare for and respond to major emergencies that may impact our campus. This program educates the campus community about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact our community and is trained in accordance with standards established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
